Vasotec Drug Interactions Explained
The following sections explain in detail the potentially negative interactions that can occur when Vasotec is combined with any of the drugs listed above.
Diuretics
When taking Vasotec with a diuretic, your blood pressure may decrease too much. This is more likely to occur when you first start taking Vasotec. In order to decrease the chances of this interaction, your healthcare provider may:
- Change the dosages of either medicine
- Start you on a lower dose of Vasotec
- Monitor you more closely.
Injectable Gold
Reactions have been reported in people taking Vasotec who received gold injections. These reactions included symptoms such as facial flushing, nausea, vomiting, and low blood pressure.
Lithium
Vasotec may increase the risk of lithium toxicity and may increase the lithium levels in the blood. Your healthcare provider may choose to monitor your blood lithium levels more frequently and may need to adjust your lithium dosage.
Nonsteroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDs)
If you have kidney disease or kidney failure, taking both NSAIDs and Vasotec may add to the damage that your kidneys are already suffering. Also, NSAIDs may decrease the blood pressure-lowering effects of Vasotec. Talk to your healthcare provider about the possible risks of using NSAIDs and Vasotec together in your situation.
Potassium
If you are taking a potassium product and Vasotec, the levels of potassium in your blood may become too high. This can cause serious problems. Talk to your healthcare provider about using potassium and Vasotec together in your situation.
Potassium-Sparing Diuretics
If you are taking Vasotec and a potassium-sparing diuretic, your blood pressure may decrease too much and/or the levels of potassium in your blood may become too high. Your healthcare provider may choose to monitor your progress closely.
