Metolazone Alternatives

Several metolazone alternatives are available if the medication is causing bothersome side effects or does not work as well as intended. Alternatives for treating high blood pressure include weight loss, changes in diet, or other blood pressure medicines. Metolazone alternatives for treating water retention may include limiting salt and fluid intake, being more physically active, or trying other diuretic medications.

 

Metolazone Alternatives Explained

Metolazone (Zaroxolyn®) is a prescription medicine used for controlling high blood pressure or treating fluid retention. The drug is typically effective in treating these conditions, and most people tolerate it well. However, as with all medicines, side effects can occur or the medicine may not completely control these conditions. Fortunately, several alternatives to metolazone are available for treating high blood pressure or water retention.
 

Metolazone Alternatives for High Blood Pressure

Alternatives to metolazone for controlling high blood pressure (hypertension), include the following:
 
  • Losing weight
  • Limiting your salt intake
  • Becoming more physically active
  • Drinking less alcohol
  • Making dietary changes (including eating more fruits and vegetables)
