Metoprolol and Digoxin
Prior to taking digoxin (Lanoxin®), tell your healthcare provider if you are taking certain beta blockers, including metoprolol (Lopressor®, Toprol-XL®). Taking digoxin with this or other beta blockers can increase your risk for a very slow heart rate, known medically as bradycardia.
Certain other beta blockers, like carvedilol (Coreg®, Coreg CR®) may increase the levels of digoxin in the body, potentially increasing your risk for side effects.
To help avoid these and other potential drug interactions with digoxin, make sure to tell your healthcare provider about all other medications you are taking, including prescription and nonprescription medicines, vitamins, and herbal supplements.
