Geriatrics and Digoxin
People with congestive heart failure (CHF) or atrial fibrillation may benefit from digoxin (Lanoxin®). This medication is available in tablet, oral solution, and injectable forms. It is approved for use in adults, children, and infants. But is digoxin safe for use in geriatric cases?
Because older adults are more likely to develop congestive heart failure and atrial fibrillation, digoxin is commonly used in elderly people. However, older people may be more sensitive to this medication, so they are usually given lower doses.
