Drug Interactions With Captopril

Medicines that may potentially cause drug interactions with captopril include aspirin or other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, potassium supplements, nitroglycerin or other nitrates, and cyclosporine. These interactions may cause your body to metabolize the medicines differently than intended and lead to decreased effectiveness of the drugs. If drug interactions with captopril are a concern, your doctor may monitor you more closely or adjust your dosage.

Drug Interactions With Captopril: An Introduction

Captopril (Capoten®) can potentially interact with a number of other medicines. Some of these drug interactions with captopril can include:

Diuretics
When captopril is taken with a diuretic, your blood pressure may decrease too much. This is more likely to occur when captopril is first started. In order to decrease the chances of this interaction, your healthcare provider may change the dosages of either medicine, start you on a lower dose of captopril, and/or monitor you more closely.
