Amiloride Alternatives

While most people have good results when taking amiloride, alternatives may be considered if bothersome side effects occur or if the medication is not working as intended. These alternatives can include lifestyle changes (such as losing weight and drinking less alcohol) and other medications. Medicines that are considered amiloride alternatives include furosemide and spironolactone, among others.

An Introduction to Amiloride Alternatives

Amiloride hydrochloride (Midamor®) is a prescription medicine used for controlling high blood pressure or dealing with fluid retention. It is known as a "potassium-sparing" diuretic. For most people, the drug is effective in treating their condition, and is generally well tolerated. However, as with all medicines, side effects can occur or the medicine may not completely control a person's condition. Fortunately, there are several alternatives to amiloride for high blood pressure and fluid retention.
